Tower Hill Botanic Garden's Newest Development Project! Capital Campaign PhaseIV Building the Heart of Tower Hill: Director toasts philantropists' donations to Capital Campaign! |
||
One of the most interesting aspects regarding Capital Campaign Phase IV development plans is the interrelationship of the new design elements with the existing features of Tower Hill. The display greenhouse (Limonaia), restaurant, expanded vestibule, winter garden, and container court will support the ever growing demands on Tower Hill's present facilities. Download a .pdf file, and view a large version of the plans.
The Winter Garden, the dramatic outdoor landscape entirely framed by the completed Quad of the Education and Visitors Center, is the "showcase garden" of Tower Hill's Capital Campaign Phase IV. The Winter Garden will be approximately 10,000 square feet and designed for viewing from the inside of the building looking out during the months of cold New England weather. Conversely, it will also be a very welcoming garden during the growing season, and extremely adaptable to accommodate a variety of social activities and special events.The beauty of the garden will be equally derived from the quality of horticulture and fine architecture. The trees and shrubs will be chosen for the very best of winter characteristics, and the architecture will include a forty-foot pool designed on a plan of the 1st century Roman architect, Rabirius, along with classical sculpture. The pool will be heated so as not to freeze, and the golden koi fish who occupy it will serve as colorful, flashing kinetic art during the gloomy winter. Visitors will view the Winter Garden from the comfort of the building; an indoor, 360 degree walk through beautifully planted galleries and greenhouses will provide the perfect vantage point to view the winter garden. It will be a spectacular experience! If you want to learn more about how to contribute to the Capital CampaignPhase IV project at Tower Hill, please e-mail Development Coordinator Marleen A.
